25% Of People Approve of Congress
In the latest New York Times/CBS News Poll, 25% of Americans said they approved of Congress. It is Congress’s worst approval rating since 1994, when the Democratics controlled Congress and got their ass’s handed to them in that year’s election.
This election year the Democrats hope to do the ass handing. But despite the Republican controlled Congress’s low approval rating they still face a tough challenge.
1)In 1994, there were roughly 100 seats up for grabs, this year there are only about 40 seats identified as close races (this is largely because one job Congress has successfully done is re-district seats to secure positions).
2)The Republicans raise more money on average so they can run more adds and give away more signs and buttons.
3)The Republicans are looking for a 3rd consecutive victory where fear mongoring tactics have prevailed in the elections following 9/11. This has proved extremely successful for Karl Rove and friends and is kid tested and mother approved.
4)And finally, the Democrats are just spineless. If they can’t take advantage of the silver platter the Republicans are handing to them then they should just give up and go home.
And we guess that 25% approval rating for Congress reflects people who approve of Tuesday-Thursday work weeks, steady pay rises for themselves (while not raising the federal minimum wage in a decade), dog and pony shows like questioning oil executives and not swearing them under oath like everyone else and other general do nothingness.
