Bush Harbors Musharraf

On Friday, President Bush met with Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf . Musharraf has come under fire for possibly turning a blind eye to Al Queda and Taliban activity along his side of the Pakistan/Afganistan border. On Thursday, Hamid Karzai, President of Afganistan commented on the possible whereabouts of Osama Bin Laben “If I said he was in Pakistan, President Musharraf would be mad at me. And if I said he was in Afghanistan, it would not be true.’’

Last week Bush said that if he knew Bin Laben was in Pakistan, he would make the order for US troops to go into the region. Musharraf, who has as much control of the border region as Paris Hilton has of keeping her clothes on, was not pleased with the remark. Bush backed off these claims Friday saying the two were in the fight together.

Musharraf avoided commenting on a claim that shortly after September 11th US State Department official Richard Armitage threatened that the US would bomb Pakistan if the country did not co-operate with the US. He avoided comment because he has a book coming out today and promised the publisher Simon & Schuster that he would not make such remarks prior to the books release. Bush followed with “In other words, buy the book.’’
