Democrats Reluctant to Do Anything
New polls in Connecticut show Joe Lieberman ahead of Ned Lamont by 10 percentage points in the race for Senate. After Lamont won the state’s democratic primary, many democrats quietly endorsed him and gave him campaign money. But most Democrats have avoided giving high profile support for the anti-war Lamont. This is very much in line with the Democrats “lets kick back and see what happens” approach.
One of the reasons the Democrats are reluctant is that if Lieberman gets re-elected they don’t want him to throw a hissy fit and switch teams. But John Kerry has announced that he will publicly do something by campaigning with Lamont on October 25th. It is a good campaign strategy for Kerry as he may run for president in 2008 on an anti-war platform.
