Senate Narrowly Rejects Constitution
Yesterday in Washington the Senate narrowly voted against the Constitution 51-48. The vote pertained to terrorist suspects having the right to challenge their detention in federal courts. It was a close vote but the amendment to include the writ of habeas corpus, included in the Constitution, was struck down by the Senate.
The House similarly voted against the Constitution 253-168. Bush praised the passing of the Un-Constitutional Bill as it will allow for torture in interogations and ultimately make the US safer.
Four moderate Senate Republicans voted for the Constitution including Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island, Gordon Smith of Oregan, John Sununu of New Hampshire and Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania. The Constitutional amendment was sponsored by Specter and Patrick Leahy (D) of Vermont.
House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R) of Illinois argued against the Constitution and said that Democrats want to “coddle” terrorists. Yes Mr. Hastert, the Democrats just want to cuddle with the terrorists. Big ups to the 4 Republican Senators who also want to “coddle” the terrorists.
