The main reason Republicans have more money to spend on the 2006 elections is big business of course. The reason Republicans get more money is two-fold: One is that they are more likely to favor policies that cater to big business. The other is that Republicans have been in solid control of government for 6 years, holding both the Presidency and Congress.
This may change in 06′ with Democrats having a good chance to take back the House of Representatives for the first time since 1994. The Dems also have an outside chance at taking a slim control over the Senate.

In Florida, Governor Jeb Bush is stepping down after this term. In his place, his Treasurer Charlie Crist is running on the Republican ticket and is ahead in the polls over his Democratic challenger Jim Davis. Charlie Crist has also been way ahead in campaign money, having about 3 times as much money to spend as Jim Davis. If this were reversed we wonder if maybe Jim Davis would be 10 percentage points ahead in a time when people want change from the George Bush agenda.

Unfortunately, campaign contributions are out of control in our country. This election year, hundreds of millions of dollars have and will be spent on TV ads, newsletters, rallies and other incidentals. It’s disturbing that so much money is spent and so much of it is wasted on misinforming voters.
And in several key races, some candidates have much more money to spend on their campaigns. This usually means that they win because they get their face shown more and are able to smear their opponent more. Is this really fair? Is this really democracy?

Senator Jim Talent (R) Missouri says he opposes amnesty for immigrants. Yet, he is caught on video saying that amnesty works, but that you don’t call it that. This is further evidence of how the Bush administration has turned a blind eye to illegal immigration to help big business.

This is one of the worst political ads we’ve seen as far as using family to portray this bright and happy image of a man who is in the back pockets of the Bush administration. Both Dick Cheney and Dennis Hastert helped Gus Bilirakis raise well over $1 million to spend on stupid TV ads such as this. Bilirakis is running for Congress in Florida’s 9th district and has made sure to include each of his sons in sharing his scewed messages to Florida voters.

Unfortunately, this video has no sound but the images speak loudly. In 1983, Donald Rumsfeld met with Saddam Hussein, the year prior, Saddam had Kurds massacred in northern Iraq. These are the charges that are pitted against Saddam today in an Iraqi court. Back then we didn’t care, now we do. These images speak volumes to the insanity of the political climate we live in. Today President Bush passed a bill that will result in a 700 mile fence with Mexico. The issue of illegal immigration has been a heated one, and the pressure has reulted in this decision by Bush.
Bush and his cronies have been letting this slide, all the while hammering national security and how they are the party that protects us. The Democrats and Tennessee Senate candidate, Harold Ford Jr. (D), are outraged over this ad currently being ran in the state. The Republican candidate Bob Corker and Republican National Committee chairman Ken Mehlman have distanced themselves from the ad, saying that they don’t agree with it but have no control over it being ran.
Ken Mehlman says he writes a check to an independent individual who subsequently runs the ads. The system is a wonderful way of running negative smear campaigns against an opponent and then claiming no responsibilty for it. As the Irish Guiness men would say BRILLIANT!!
