Big Business Hedging Their Bets in 06′

The main reason Republicans have more money to spend on the 2006 elections is big business of course. The reason Republicans get more money is two-fold: One is that they are more likely to favor policies that cater to big business. The other is that Republicans have been in solid control of government for 6 years, holding both the Presidency and Congress.

This may change in 06′ with Democrats having a good chance to take back the House of Representatives for the first time since 1994. The Dems also have an outside chance at taking a slim control over the Senate.

At the end of the day, big business wants to be on the side of the party that controls Washington. From October 1st-18th, the New York Times reports that big business has shifted the largest proportion of campaign contributions from one party to another since the 1994 elections. If the Democrats take control of Congress, large corporations don’t want to be left with the government owing them less perks. No matter who has control, they are making certain that favors will be owed and big business will continue to write it’s own legislation.
