Even if the state of California did get gay marriage banned who would that be helping? Who does that make happy? What is the benefit?

By the way, Bellie is my wife and I know she doesn’t like me talking about this but when I lived with her in Australia she voted for John Howard who is a member of their “liberal party” but is an economic conservative, while he is also a social conservative he didn’t try and lay down his religious values on the Australian people. But like Tony Blair in the UK, his downfall was brown nosing Bush too much and now he’s gone.

When my wife first moved to the US she was shocked at how much religion is involved in our politics. We are supposed to have a separation of church and state but we don’t.

It’s good if you believe in God, have good values, etc. but if someone isn’t harming someone else, why shouldn’t they be happy?

I’ll be honest here, I used to oppose gay marriage simply because I disagreed with the lifestyle (I was raised by my Dad with intolerance towards gays). A lot of what we believe is how we were raised, but it’s important that we evolve if there is some flaw in the logic.

I’m 29 now and it was only a couple years ago that I changed my views on this. I mean seriously, what business is it of mine??

By the way DH, a Hillary win will make me sick too, I’m tired of this two family crap.

I am proud of my Dad and Grandmother who did really raise me after Mom left and I am proud of waiting for marriage before I give myself to a man.

I am also proud of being a conservative Republican.

Yeah, I think we need to throw the conservative and liberal labels in this country out the window. The parties are using it to pit people against each other-the difference between Betty’s “conservative” view on the world and DH’s “conservative” view on the world are night and day.

There’s so much going on in this conversation so I might as well give my background too. I’m a registered democrat to vote in primaries but I used to consider myself independent. But the last few years (because of the polarizing nature of the president) I find that I view myself more and more as a democrat.

But as a “liberal” I don’t believe in irresponsible gov’t wasting tax money and middle class peoples taxes ballooning and a bigger bureacracy in this country than there already is. I worked on an MBA at the University of Central Florida, I didn’t finish that but I have a business background too.

At the most basic level, we need government and we need taxes to build roads and schools.

But seeing as how we have money to blow on wasteful wars like Iraq, I think that money is better suited to be pumped into education and healthcare (in some form).

We have the biggest prison population in the world: over 2 million people! We WASTE money trying people and convicted them because they have some pot on them. Thanks beer and drug companies!!

I think marijuana should be decriminalized-fine people who have small amounts on them and use that money for social programs or whatever. Instead, we waste money on them.

I also think states other than Nevada could legalize prostitution and benefit as per tax purposes, rather than keeping it criminalized and again, wasting tax money to incarcerate people. Shit, I wrote about that in a high school paper! Got an “A” on it too

So my thoughts are “extremely liberal” but economically speaking, there are conservative elements in what I am saying.
