Sirened

On a recently purchased box of Lipton family size ice tea bags we found a very false and possibly dangerous comment on the back. Under the title Hydration Lipton says “Tea is a great tasting and easy way to get your necessary daily fluid intake.”

We’re not arguing that tea isn’t great tasting and cannot be enjoyed but there are two misleading comments here. Tea contains caffeine of course and that is dehydrating. Caffeine is in no way an acceptable alternative to the amount of water intake recommended. In fact, the more dehydrating beverages you consume, the more hydrating beverages you must drink to compensate. For people that don’t know better this could lead to possible health risks, including death from dehydration.

Yesterday we sent an email to Lipton informing them of their false and potentially dangerous claims and asked that these comments be removed from their boxes immediately. We are awaiting a reply and will give an update when we get a response.
