This is one of the few good political advertisements we’ve seen this election year. Most are garbage, with little substance and are a waste of money. Thumbs up to Claire McCaskill, the Democratic nominee for Senate in Missouri, for running a political ad that actually means something.
The Republican party is the supposed Right to Life party and yet they oppose stem cell research that can save lives. Senator Jim Talent (R) of Missouri, is one of those hypocritical “Right to Lifers.”

Yesterday, former Enron CEO Jeff Skilling was sentenced to 24 years in the slammer for his involvement in doctoring the company’s record keeping. Skilling plans to appeal and still claims he is innocent of the charges.
Judge Simeon Lake had little sympathy for Skilling saying “As the many victims have testified, his crimes have imposed on hundreds if not thousands a life sentence of poverty.”
Skilling nearly set the record for the longest sentence ever given for a white collar crime. The record holder is Bernard Ebbers, former CEO of Worldcom, who received a 25 year sentence last year.

In 2004, Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman ran for the Democratic presidential nomination. When his poll numbers hit a whopping 15% he declared it Joementum. Unfortunately for Joe, his Mojo halted at that figure and he was forced to drop out of the race.
According to the New York Times, over the last 2 years, Senator Lieberman has said 3 times as many negative comments about his party than positive ones. He has also been more supportive of the war in Iraq and President Bush’s brilliant ’stay the course’ plan.

 Karl Rove, mastermind of Republican politics and shadow of President Bush, continues to spin politics like a seamstress making a dress. Friday night at a dinner in Buffalo, NY, Rove reiterated the rhetoric he has preached for years…War, terror and security.
Rove said it was wrong for Democrats to want to “cut and run” from civil war in Iraq. To those who say the Iraq War has created more terrorists, and many now believe this, Rove’s response is that we were not in Iraq when the first World Trade Center attack and other terrorist attacks took place.

Many believe that criticizing the President, particularly during a time of war is unpatriotic. This is partly why no war-time President has ever not been re-elected. In light of the fact that our upcoming elections will include electronic voting machines with no receipts and other undemocratic events that will surely transpire on election day (as they usually do), we sadly believe that the UN should oversee this terms elections.
In 2004, John Kerry asked for the UN to oversee the elections but President Bush shot down the idea. The past few elections in this country have been tarnished by possible fraud and it’s imperative that we have fair and transparent elections.

According to CNN, States such as Maryland will have electronic voting machines with no printed backup. All the voting information will be on disks and according to some analysts, the information on the disks can be manipulated. An example was given by placing a virus in the disk to successfully change the outcome of the votes.
This is an absolute outrage and a threat to democracy in this country. We badger other nations to have fair elections and yet ’the bright beacon of freedom’ is allowing this?

This is a clip from Meet the Press showing Rick Santorum’s almost identical voting record with Bush’s policies. When asked by Tim Russert if Bush has been a great president, Santorum replied with “he’s been a terrific president.” Russert should have taken a page from Stephen Colbert and asked “George Bush: Great president or the Greatest president?”

According to Frank Rich of the New York Times ”The political party fond of demonizing homosexuals each election year is as well-stocked with trusted and accomplished gay leaders as virtually every other power center in America.”
This is something to consider in light of the Mark Foley scandal and the alleged cover up by Republicans that possibly climbs as high as House Majority Leader Dennis Hastert (R) Illinois.
