Lessons Learned This Election Year
)Karl Rove can only use the same playbook so many times. Wasn’t it George Bush who said “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” The point is, you can’t be fooled twice, although we were.
)That the President’s unpopularity was good enough to destroy even moderate Republicans like Lincoln Chaffee in Rhode Island. Chaffee never voted for the Iraq war to begin with and didn’t even vote for Bush in the 2004 elections! He still lost!
)Rick Santorum got destroyed in Pennsylvania. While the idea of gay marriage may not be popular in this country, it isn’t very wise to compare it to beastiality. That doesn’t really fly as a politician.
)The Republicans tried an even dirtier tactic this time and that was to actually accuse some Democrats of actually supporting terrorism. Rick Santorum did that to Bob Casey and to use Bush’s words, “it was a thumpin.”
)Having sex offender Mark Foley’s name on the ballot cannot be overcome even by a vastly Republican district. Although, we will hand it to Florida voters-it was damn close!
)That the system does work. Two year term limits have their pitfalls (like having to see these jackoffs on TV more than is necessary) but it provides the ability to change government quickly. The American people weren’t duped this time. Do you really think Rumsfeld would have resigned if the Republicans won? We don’t think so. We would have seen a very cocky and defiant George Bush, rather than the subdued lame duck we saw yesterday. And with that, Rumsfeld would still have his job, stay the course right?
