The B5Media network:

Problems in Iraq? Problems in New Orleans Too

Last night Anderson Cooper was reporting live from New Orleans, with a backdrop of the still devastated lower 9th ward. It has been sixteen months since Hurricane Katrina hit and residents are angered about the escalating violence in the city.

Yesterday saw massive protests in New Orleans. Mayor Ray Nagin attended and was hoping to speak, protestors did not even allow him to. Three Hundred National Guard members have been deployed to back up a depleted police force in the city.

Many are angered by the increased law enforcement because they feel no safer, but that they are now living in a police state. Many feel the problem doesn’t need more police, it needs a change in political and social solutions. Sound familiar?

The Iraq Study Group and top military advisors have told Bush that more troops are not the solution in Iraq. Yet the stubborn dictator  decides to send more troops. War on terror? What about that open border with Mexico? What about all our domestic problems?

The Democrats may not have a solution for the war Bush started, but at least they are trying to fix domestic problems (and there are lots!). One problem that needs fixing is New Orleans, sadly it has become a small microcosm of what Baghdad currently is.
