ExxonMobil Makes Record Profits, Can’t Give Refund For Bad Car Wash
Today ExxonMobil announced that they made $39.5 Billion in 2006, breaking their own 2005 profit record. We can definitely see how, given high gas prices and the fact that they would not refund a bad car wash.
Last month, just before Christmas, I purchased their top end ”Works” carwash at a Mobil station near Orlando, FL. The $8 wash and wax did not wash my car so I complained to the attendant inside. He told me I could have another wash but if that did not work I would have to phone the manager the next day. I figured a 2nd wash would do the trick but it didn’t, so I left.
The next day was Christmas Eve so there was no time to phone the Mobil manager over an $8 car wash. I decided to skip the individual station and call headquarters directly. It was a matter of principle more than the $8.
A customer service representative gave me the runaround and said that the store manager would have to be contacted and I would be informed by letter or phone on the verdict of my $8. “But you guys made $35 billion in 2005 and it didn’t wash my car” I said. “And I drive a sedan, not an ‘off-road’ SUV” I added, “so it definitely should have washed it.”
It is now beginning of February and I have yet to receive a reply from the folks at ExxonMobil. We guess they are too busy making an assload of profit to give a deserved $8 refund.

hey Alex…
I think it was very kind of Exxon to give you a second car wash.
However; a shop is a shop is a shop– and it’s none of your business how much money someone makes or loses– so just like you cant tell a female masseur that ‘hey… even your second free massage didnt relax my shoulders but I bet you relax your boyfriend a lot…”– same way I think it’s wrong of you to talk like this to exxon mobile’s customer service.
It’s just a opinion… there are many aspects of exxon which I think are wrong and evil– but this definitely is nothing wrong abt exxon…
yea…

Pri-There is nothing “kind” about someone taking money for a service they did not provide.
The female masseur comparison is interesting (and odd) but doesn’t work in this case because
shoulder relaxation is pretty subjective and there is no clear cut proof to the masseur as to whether the massage did in fact relax the person’s shoulders. In the case of a car wash there is visible proof as to whether the service worked or not.
When a car wash machine cannot wash a sedan after 2 go’s then something is wrong with the machine. People should not be expected to pay for a service they didn’t receive. There was nothing wrong with the way I dealt with ExxonMobil, the fault was with them.
