New York Looking to Combat Terror in Non-Abstract Way
George Bush believes in fighting the terrorists “over there” so we don’t have to fight them here. The problem with that logic is that by killing more people we are creating more terrorists. Everything that is occurring and will occur in Iraq does nothing to combat terrorism here in the long run.
I have firmly believed all along that the money wasted in Iraq should be spent on safety measures here. How safe are we with an open border with Mexico? All of this is a total sham.
This article in the NY Times outlines ways that the city is looking to combat terrorism long term in a constructive way that will not breed more terrorists. The basic gist of the article is that the city is looking to build radiation detectors that cover a 50 mile radius.
Some people are complaining about the expense of the project and that terrorists can find a way around it. Sure, the idea isn’t perfect but it’s a better idea than wasting more money on a losing cause in Iraq. And besides, how can we put a price on combating terror? Right?
