 George Bush believes in fighting the terrorists “over there” so we don’t have to fight them here. The problem with that logic is that by killing more people we are creating more terrorists. Everything that is occurring and will occur in Iraq does nothing to combat terrorism here in the long run.
I have firmly believed all along that the money wasted in Iraq should be spent on safety measures here. How safe are we with an open border with Mexico? All of this is a total sham.

The scapegoat trial of Lewis ”Scooter” Libby continues. Yesterday, Tim Russert of Meet The Press testified that he did not reveal the identity of CIA agent Valerie Plame as the Scooter has alleged.
Libby contends that Russert told him about her before he went around the White House babbling like a little school girl.
But regardless of whether or not he is guilty, he is definitely the scapegoat here. He is the sacrificial lamb for Karl Rove and Dick Cheney.

Former Democrat, then Independent, now “Independent-Democrat” Joe Lieberman has been giving full support to President Bush and fellow Republicans for the troop escalation in Iraq. For this reason, he was the only Senator mentioned by President Bush during his public escalation announcement.
Not only has Lieberman sided with Republicans, he has even accused Democrats of being unpatriotic and emboldening the enemy. Lieberman is a true patriot because he is a crusty old white man that supports more young American deaths in Iraq.

This is the CH-46 Sea Knight transport helicopter. On Wednesday, one these was shot down outside Baghdad killing 7 people on board. This brings the total number of downed American aircraft to 6 in the past 3 weeks.
According to this article in the NY Times, top military personnel believe this is due to a shift in insurgent tactics combined possibly with some luck on their part. Luck huh?

On Monday nights Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert was glowing about the Colts 29-17 victory over the Chicago Bears. He said:
“There’s nothing I enjoy more than seeing bears slaughtered. Turns out their weakness is rain, and holding onto the ball.”
He also added that what transpired is good news because if a bear ever gets a hold of your baby it may very well fumble it.

Today, Captain Lisa Nowak was charged with attempted murder in an Orlando, FL courtroom. The charges come as a shock because she is an astronaut, no surprise this would happen in Florida though. After all, it is the state OJ Simpson currently resides in.
Nowak drove 950 miles from Houston to Orlando to confront the girlfriend of a fellow astronaut who has clearly tickled her fancy. Nowak found Colleen Shipman in the Orlando International Airport’s parking lot. Shipman knew she was dealing with a nut bar as Nowak chased after her wearing a hood over her head. Today our President, the self proclaimed Decider, has issued his budget proposal to the new Congress. The $2.9 trillion dollar budget is for the 2008 fiscal year that begins October 1st.
The proposed Department of Defense budget is $481 billion, a $49 billion dollar increase over this year’s defense money.
President Bush has no problem in supporting the troops to fight and die, just not to care for them later on in life. During Bush’s tenure, veterans benefits have been cut as well as programs for mental health. Yet Bush has the gaul to say “support our troops.”

In this article in today’s New York Times, writer Stuart Elliot reads way too much into yesterday’s Super Bowl advertising. Mr. Elliot argues that there were many ads that had underlying references to Iraq and violence. I watched most of the ads and while making comparisons to various other things, none of them made me think of Iraq. Did any make you think of the war?

Well, Peyton Manning has finally made it to the big game! For years he has been a big time regular season quarterback and big time advertising whore. Who does more stupid commercials than Peyton Manning? Nobody, absolutely nobody. It’s kinda like he’ll just do any commercial, completely ignoring his dignity. This is similar to Anthony Hopkins doing every single movie that passes his way, except that Anthony has done some really good ones of course. None of Peyton’s commercials are in any way quality.
