Illegal Immigrants Might Be Able to Purchase Citizenship

Illegal immigration has been a serious issue of contention over the last several years, hell maybe since all years.

A lot of Americans are upset that illegals are taking their jobs, even if they are the jobs they don’t want to do. Many Americans are upset simply at the principle that people have come here illegally and broken US laws. And others simply don’t like immigrants.

On the flip side, those that favor legal status for illegals justify it as a means to keep families together, some have been here a long time and have children or spouses that are legal. Plus there is big business, which controls all things, that wants to keep the price of labor down, and the best way to do that is to have more immigrants that will work for less.

The issue of immigration is seriously a tough one and Sirened takes no sides here, aside from the fact that if we are serious about Homeland Security then we should protect our borders. But something about Congress’s new immigration proposal smells really rotten here.

According to this article in the Boston Globe, a bipartisan bill is being set up to allow illegals to become legals. But because they broke the law they must first pay a $5,000 fine. So basically, if Pedro, who will now legally make say $6.75 an hour picking tomatoes wants to stay in our wonderful country, he must scrounge up a spare $5,000.

This whole situation is a win win for big business and our government, running more and more in debt fighting a futile war in Iraq. Big business will get to keep cheap labor, the $5,000 fine helps many to stay poor and hell, we may even get some extra soldiers to die in Iraq. Good job US government, nice work putting an official price tag on legal residency and having our treasury hold a garage sale where apparently everything must go go go!

First of all I find your “comic” strip header a bone of contention. How was it possible for the Pilgrims to be ‘illegal’ immigrants’ when there were no immigration laws? Did the Pilgrims come into North America and begin appropriating the Indians money and taking advantage of them? No, they came seeking a home away from religious tyranny, in a peaceable manner. Many people claim that they came with warmongering tactics. This is a claim wholly without foundation, the Pilgrims only fought to defend themselves.

Now to the actual post. My ‘thing’, so to speak, against illegal immigrants is that they have knowingly flaunted Americas immigration laws, and have immediately began leeching off of the American government, takinh health care without paying for it, and abusing our welfare system. I find the $5,000 fine totally fair. If you run a red light you pay a fine, because you broke the law. The illegal immigrants have broken the American immigration laws. To use an analogy, if you break into a person’s house, and get caught you have to pay a fine and go to jail, even if you dont have a job at all. The illegals are ‘breaking’ into our country. It is totally fair and within reason that these law breakers pay their dues. Thanks for your time.

Thank you for bringing up some excellent points. But by your analogy that pilgrims “came seeking a home away from religious tyranny, in a peaceable manner” and “the Pilgrims only fought to defend themselves” you almost have to compare that to the plight of many illegal immigrants.

They are escaping poverty in their own countries to seek a better life here. Most are not harming anyone, they are just working hard for little.

My biggest issue here is lower class people being kept down by big business and big government, regardless of whether they are American or not. And what I infer from your pilgrim analogy is that we are all creatures of this Earth and should have a right to seek a better life.

Big business and the government has allowed this to become a problem. This is an extremely grey issue in many ways as far as I am concerned.

You stated that most are not harming anyone. Isn’t it harming someone when a critical case person is having to wait in the ER while some illegals are getting a cough checked? Isn’t it harming someone when you cannot be processed quickly at the DMV because of a bunch of illegals who cannot speak English? They are not being kept down. They are reaping the consequences of their flaunting immigration laws and skipping over the border. I do not disagree that everybody has a right to seek a better life. I fully commend a person who is willing to leave home and family for a better life. What I have a problem with is the fact that they are not willing to go through the citizenship process. In fact, in the long run it would be better for them to go through that citizenship process. They would have every right that a citizen has, and they would not have to pay the $5,000 fine.

People with a “cough” as you put it do not prevent a critical case receiving care due to a thing called triage. There are also plenty of American citizen’s sitting in the ER waiting to get a cough checked too because the health care system sucks.

I don’t think that this plan will fork over the money that the government needs, but if illegals want to stay in the country and take our jobs, then this is sure fine, temporarily.

Devon-”take our jobs?” What is your job? Is your job picking tomatoes? My guess is no seeing as how you are leaving comments on blog sites. So I really don’t think any illegals are taking your job.

I live in Florida and most illegals I see are in the back of pick up trucks.

Bellie-yup, and anybody who complains about illegals using these services can thank BIG Business for controling government and allowing this to happen.

Our government has turned a blind eye to illegal immigration so businesses can have cheap labor. Now the government wants to substantially fine poor people when they let them in the first place.

well if the americans really don’t like inmigrants, then why you don’t organice your administration and dont let in nobody else? why you still don’t take care of it? is because is been a good business for someone?

by the way many people don’t like inmigrants , but ask some of those millionaries who owns a big big big stores and ask them if they like inmigrants or no? (that is just one example) i could been the whole nigth giving you examples,

so who really cares about the ones don’t like inmigrants?

We do all have the right to seek a better life, but not at the sake of others. Should a homeless man sneak into a house and eat all the food in the pantry and get away with it just so he can get a better life? No, that is breaking the law. These immigrants come over and “get a better life” and the expense of people who are actually here legally. And you are wrong, they do break the law and harm people. Do you watch the news? There are plenty of stories of illegals breaking the law. They also enjoy smuggling over drugs.
