Iranian Prez to Speak at Columbia

Today, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is in New York and set to speak on the campus of Columbia University. Mahmoud is scheduled to speak for a half hour and then field questions for the other half hour. No word yet on whether students will receive tazers to run a reversal of what happened at the University of Florida last week.

All weekend long Faux news and others have criticized the University of Columbia for their decision to allow a world leader to speak on their campus. Fox anchors have said that while they understand there is “free speech” in this country, allowing this man to talk is an extreme version of it. It is Fox’s way of being fair and balanced of course.

I can understand the controversy here but keep this in mind, George Bush is free to speak pretty much wherever he wants in this world, and he is absolutely hated worldwide. And there are probably just as many non-Muslims in this world who view Bush as being just as “evil” as Ahmadinejad.

So while everyone goes up in arms, remember, if we are truly ”the bright beacon of freedom” that we say we are, than we need to lead by example. Otherwise, we might as well have the “democracy” that is currently implemented in Putin’s Russia.

    An incredibly good point. Bravo.

Thanks, I wish more people could stop for a moment, go outside themselves and look at the world from the perspective of someone else.
