How to Avoid Hangovers on Big Drinking Nights

keg stands, binge drinking, avoiding hangoversWell, it’s New Year’s Eve and it’s almost time to say goodbye to 2007 and hello to 2008. If 2007 was a good year for you, you may want to wish it farewell by having a big drinking night tonight. If 2007 was a bad year, you may want to send it off with a big fuck you by getting trashed and ready for 2008.

With that in mind, it would still be nice to wake up in 2008 by not feeling like total ass. So here are some tips on avoiding this for not just New Year’s but all types of special occasions like birthdays, weddings, and what I like to call Tuesdays.

1) Eat before and/or during your drinking- This helps absorb the alcohol and if you’re drinking a good amount it’s less likely you’ll puke or possibly black out.

2) Drink Lots of Water-This is important in helping to re-hydrate your body since alcohol is dehydrating.

3)Get Vitamins B and C in Your Body- Mixed drinks like screwdrivers or anything with orange juice, grapefruit juice, etc. will help replace the nutrients that the alcohol kills. If you’re drinking beer or wine, just pop some vitamins.

4)Don’t Mix Too Many Alcohols-If you start the night out with wine, then switch to beer, then decide to have some shots, you’ll probably be heading to pray to the porcelain gods. Try and stick to what you started out with.

5)Drink Nicer Booze!-Cheap and shitty booze will not only make your body feel worse but it also doesn’t give you as good a buzz. For college kids this may not be an option, but you’re young and you can handle it so screw you!

6)Pace Yourself and Try and Have a Break Before Bed-The reasons for hangovers is because alcohol is a toxin and a drug so drinking too much poisons your body and you’re going through alcohol withdrawal.

7)Sleep it Off!!-This isn’t always possible but if you have the luxury of doing it don’t wake up earlier than necessary. Your body will thank you!

8) Be a Designated Driver-Just kidding! Get someone else to do that!

    Eating alot before drinking only delays the time it takes you to get drunk…

    Amanda-It depends how much you drink. Yes, if you eat on an empty stomach you will get drunk MUCH quicker. If you eat and don’t binge drink, you may not even get drunk.

    But yes, eating can help hangovers, not cure them.

    nice stuff dude good list. just one thing – hangovers arent just from withdrawing from alcohol (although alcohol is one of only 2 drugs that can kill you from withdrawing). Alcohol permeates nearly every single cell in your body, so dehydration from alcohol affects every cell in your body. the net result is that your body is in a state very similar to dying from thirst. there is literally not enough moisture in all parts of your body.

    Moff-Thanks! The extra input is greatly appreciated. And yes, thanks to alcohol my body has been greatly dehydrated many a times.

    I try to drink lots of water, juice and/or fruit;
    but does anybody have a special formula they use for re hydrating while drinking?
