Sirened

Iowa and New Hampshire are in the books and the result is a split decision on both sides. Despite democratic polls showing Barack Obama 10 points ahead of Hillary Clinton, Clinton managed to upset Obama 39%-37%. John Edwards was given another opportunity to polish up his inevitable concession speech. And Mike Gravel’s name was shown on television as he gathered about 400 votes (Joe Biden who dropped out last week got over 600 votes).

On the republican end of the granite state, John McCain stuck Mitt Romney between a rock and a hard place, winning the state 37%-31% despite Mitt Romney spending an exorbitant amount of money on TV ads. Between Iowa and New Hampshire, there was an itty bitty republican caucus in Wyoming which Romney won, unfortunately for him; nobody counts Wyoming and its dairy cow population.

Unlike Iowa, Rudy Giuliani managed to narrowly eek out a 4th place finish over Ron Paul and Fred Thompson, finishing with a solid 9% of the vote. Both finished ahead of him in the corn state.

So the democratic field is down to Clinton and Obama, with John Edwards tagging along and pretending he is still a contender. Dude, you’re in third place in South Carolina and you were born there.

The republican field is more wide open than Paris Hilton on a Saturday night-there’s been 3 different winners plus Rudy 9/11 and Fred “aww shucks” Thompson. Apparently New Hampshire republicans did not take my advice and write the Ron Paul blimp in on their ballots, as I didn’t see any numbers for it on CNN. You’re up next Michigan-let’s make that blimp even more historic!
