Jerry Springer- “Media and Society”
About a month ago Jerry Springer paid a visit to the University of South Florida, where my Aussie wife worked. We’d had the discussion before, I’d said time and again that Jerry Springer should not be shown in other countries. During my travels I met several foreigners (including my wife) who not only said they’d watched Springer, but had the seen the very same episode where a man is so fat that a wall needs to be torn down to remove him from his bedroom. Seriously, does the world really need to watch that?
Anyways, my wife being an actual Springer fan was hell bent on seeing him speak; suffice to say some of her colleagues were bewildered as to why. “He used to be the mayor of Cincinnati!” she said. I knew this but still wasn’t super keen as I can’t stand the show. But knowing that Jerry Springer is extremely intelligent and was giving a speech that interested me, I decided to check it out with her-and I’m glad I did.
Honestly, he was fantastic! He was so well spoken and gave so much insight into media and politics and the history of how each has shaped the other. He talked about everything from the media’s impact on civil rights to a plethora of current political events. He brought up an interesting perspective on the Iraq war saying he was against it from the beginning but said “Thank god Bush was wrong.” What if upon invasion Saddam said “let em’ loose” as far as the chemical weapons in the region? Millions could have died right from the beginning.
When talking about his show he described it as “ridiculous.” Which of course is true. Afterwards he signed autographs and my wife was very keen on getting one. I got one too but was much more interested in getting this Colbert-esq picture with the king of outrageous television.
By the way, that Buffalo St. Patty’s Day shirt can be purchased from ADBTEES.com (A Drunk Buffalo T-Shirt Company). I don’t get any kickbacks here but enjoy giving my cousin’s company a plug when I can. Nice to have his attire involved in my jackass antics!

Wow! Who knew Jerry was so interesting?
So, did he give any insight as to why he purchased a hooker with a City of Cincinnati check?
Haha, no he didn’t mention that!!
I remember hearing something way back about that but completely forgot about it.
He did however endorse Hillary Clinton. He got mixed applause on that one of course, I being one who did not applaud.
