Food at Outback Steakhouse is not meant to represent Ausrtrailian food they have a austrailian theme and decor. But they are a American steakhouse with a deverse menu.

Amy-Most of us know it’s not really Australian food? Americans did elect George W. Bush and most people don’t know shit about anything outside the US.

You’re educated and I think you’re assuming some things about others that just isn’t correct. If you took a poll I’m sure that most Americans would think that they had fortune cookies in China.

Oh, come on, most of know it’s not really Australian food! Hell, they used a New Zealander as their spokesperson (Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords).

We also don’t eat real Chinese or Mexican food half the time at these restaurants. I mean, a fortune cookie? My Asian friends laugh so hard at that crap.

If you took a poll of Americans who visited Outback and asked them if they thought the bloomin’ onion was an Aussie dish, they would probably respond 85% yes, easy.

I’ve been to China…most of what you find at a typical Chinese restaurant here would be unrecognizeable to the average Chinese person. It’s pretty much the same as the Outback thing.

As an American it’s always good to know that you can go just about anywhere and grab yourself a Big Mac (sure some of the preservatives might be different but it’s generally the same).

I will say even in Melbourne; Australia’s 2nd biggest city, it was difficult to get some of the good classic American dishes. A good hot dog? Nope. I can think of just one place that had NY style Pizza. Buffalo wings? Nope. And that one surprises me because Australians eat chicken wings with honey mustard and crap, but somehow the concept of eating them with hot sauce has not crossed the Pacific to them.

Australia is like a cross between the UK and the United States anyways, it’s kinda like Canada except they sound different, have different animals and I think some Canadians eat hot wings.

Ahhh come on its chicken and shrimp there is nothing cultural about that dish at all!! It would be like going to an American restaurant in London and finding chicken and broccoli on the menu, yes you can get that any where and maybe its yumo, but what would you be hoping for… a great burger or maybe buffalo wings and then how would you feel if you didn’t find these on the menu… you’d feel jipped!
