Obama vs. Clinton: Black vs. White
Last night the democrats held their final debate before Super Tuesday at the Kodak theatre in Los Angeles. The showdown was mono e mamo this time and marked the first time that we are guaranteed to have either a female or black nominee for president. Unless of course Al Gore comes flying into the race this weekend waving his Nobel Prize around and telling everyone that the Earth will melt if he doesn’t become president.
Anyways, the candidates have said that they don’t want to play the race card, even though they have. Bill Clinton dismissed Obama’s resounding win in South Carolina with a nonchalant big deal attitude saying that Jesse Jackson won that state in 1984 and 1988. And when talking about change in the debate last night, Hillary said that just by looking at the democrats stage vs. the republicans you see change.
The candidates were very cordial and polite during the debate, which was unfortunate because that made it much less interesting. Their health care plans are pretty similar, both support amnesty for illegals (Barack supports allowing them to have driver’s licenses while Hillary doesn’t, this makes sense if you’re going to give them amnesty anyways, why not know who they are and allow them to drive to Home Depot?-legally while being illegal). Barack says he would meet with hostile world leaders immediately while Hillary says not so fast, etc, etc.
Let’s get to the good stuff here though, the race card! Bill Clinton has often been considered “the first black president” and here comes Obama who not only far out-blacks him (since he is in fact black) but is also trying to take the White House from him.
It’s still unknown if Barack can garner enough white (John Edwards) votes to get the nomination. So here are some questions to consider when you vote. When playing roulette, do you bet on black? Do you drink your coffee black? Do you own a black car? Do you like black licorice? In high school sports, did you usually pick the black kid first? If you answered yes to some of these questions than I project that you are able to vote for Obama, if you answered no than probably not. Not that I’m playing the race card or anything.
