Obama’s Rise to Fuel Republican Racist Strategies?
The following is a guest contribution from Paul Springer who writes for Starked SF. Starked SF is an excellent assortment of Bay area news, celebrity gossip and political and social commentary and satire. The following post is Paul’s take on what may transpire in what appears to be a head on collision between John McCain and Barack Obama.
Unlike the Dems, Republicans will do anything to win, regardless of whether it’s legal and/or ethical. Think about what they did to Bill Clinton over SemenGate or John Kerry over his lack of enthusiasm for killing Vietnamese.
Now think about what they’ll be willing to do to keep a black man out of the presidency. They could do a lot of things, but the hole card they may finally choose to play this time around is the 100 million adults who typically fail to vote in major elections.
Given the issues at stake in the last several presidential contests, these non-voters are completey mindless. In other words, they’re ideal Republicans.
In the past, the Repubs haven’t bothered to use the tools of fear and hysteria to awaken the legions of American Idiots. It’s easier to rig an election at the ballot box or tar the other candidate.
But racism still runs deep in this country, and I can tell you which party it runs deepest in. Right now it looks like Obama is going to grab the ring. If he does, look for the following:
Massive Republican voter registration drives with as little publicity as possible.
Diabolically crafted television attack ads with crypto-racist subtexts.
Attempts by third-party “Swift Boat” groups to associate Obama with Islam and thus terrorism.
And if Hillary gets on the ticket at VP, you can bet the GOP will exploit America’s fears of powerful women . . . .
