40 Years Since MLK Wrapup

First off, I’m going to sway a bit from my typically cynical commentary on things to say that is was great watching John McCain speak in Memphis yesterday. McCain spoke to a justifiably hostile crowd and admitted to making a mistake when he voted against a national holiday to honor the late Dr. King back in 1983. When he did so, the boo birds came out to voiced their opinion. Regardless of political motives here, it’s always refreshing to see a politician admit to making a mistake-especially when they are not pandering to their audience. And thankfully the audience kept their rotten eggs at home!

Hillary Clinton was also in Memphis yesterday and spoke about her effort to combat poverty. She said that if she were elected president she would appoint a “Poverty Czar” whom she would consult with daily. Poverty czar? Perhaps the ghost of Rasputin can resurrect Nicolas II.

Barack Obama was absent from Memphis yesterday but did speak out on this unfortunate anniversary. He was the only one of our 3 presidential contenders that was not in Memphis and given MLK’s impact on where Barack Obama is in life, many feel this was a mistake. I kind of agree.
