America’s Angriest Cities: Florida Tops the List
When people think of Florida they think of sunshine, Disney, beautiful keys, loads of great beaches and usually at worst, stupidity. Most visitors would not associate Florida with anger, but apparently Florida is the angriest state in the country as we are home to 5 of the 12 angriest cities! This list was actually formed in 2006 by Men’s Health, but I just found out about it when speaking to a friend of mine in Orlando the other day. Anyways, here’s the top 12:
1. Orlando, FL
2. St. Petersburg, FL
3. Detroit, MI
4. Baltimore, MD
5. Nashville, TN
6. Wilmington, DE
7. Miami, FL
8. Memphis, TN
9. Jacksonville, FL
10. St. Louis, MO
11. Chicago, IL
12. Tampa, FL
I currently reside in Tampa and grew up in the Orlando area so I can first hand vouch for the amount of frustration in these parts. It’s amazing, so many people come to Florida to escape something (as an extreme think OJ Simpson moving to Miami) and have wound up creating this melting pot of frustration and bullshit. I recently saw a t-shirt that summed up my current home town best, Tampa: A Sunny Place for Shady People.
Regardless, lots of people still think Florida is a great state to move to. My advice: Unless you have hordes of cash and/or want to get involved in some sort of shady operation, DON’T! I know plenty of people that move to Florida, think what the hell is this? Then get completely frustrated and move back to where they came from. Or people wind up getting stuck here and contributing to the anger problem even further.
For the complete list of the top 100 angriest cities go to Men’s Health.
Dude ready to bash a car window image from this joint.

Yeah you’d think the weather would make Floridians more chilled, but apparently people are still just really pissed off. I would never have thought this though until I moved here and it doesn’t surprise me that Florida dominates the list. Too many people and too much heat!!

hehe, I was speaking with a different friend of mine in Orlando today and she was telling me how pissed she is about Florida. Seriously, it’s a huge problem here!
That study included (among other things like road rage) the number of men with high blood pressure, I just turned 29 and I have high blood pressure!

Hi, on the upside my theory is that its just the heat that is literally frying our brains to the point of madness! On the downside, its actually all those crazies moving here that are driving up our blood pressure by bringing big city crime, extra pollution & over crowding. Every road being under construction can’t help the road rage factor either…

Thanks for telling me about this Ang. Big props to ya! Crazy that we have 5 out of 12 huh??
Yeah I think it’s much more than the heat. It’s all the things you just mentioned that equates to our melting pot of bullshit. This state needs a big hose down I’d say! :)

I’m not surprised at all…I’ve lived in Orlando for the past 6 years, and it is, by far, the angriest city I’ve ever been to. Between the constant traffic and everyone’s rush to get to where they’re going, road rage is always in effect. Snowbirds come down for the warm weather and entertainment, but when it’s too hot or too expensive it puts people in a bad mood and ruins vacations. As a server at 2 restaurants, I see this all the time with visitors from other states and countries. Florida is like it’s own planet, with mixes of people from all over. Ask around and see how many people you can find that were born and raised here. The ratio is like 100 to 1. And AC is a must. Imagine driving around without AC in your car. Hell. Absolute hell. I should know, I did it for over a year. So many factors make people angry here there’s too many to list. Just be careful out there, and try not to piss anyone off, or you may be killed. jk, but not really. ;)

Thanks for the great comment Deanna! Yup, your absolutely right about everything you said.
And yeah great point about the tourists because they get angry for a lot of the same reasons we do. Traffic, weather, getting mugged, etc.
When I was 16-17 I worked at Disney and saw lots of angry tourists in “The happiest place on Earth.” I worked in a fast food restaraunt in Magic Kingdom and being that during the summer there are like 80,000 people in the park OFTEN times people were waiting 30 minutes for their overpriced and shitty food!! This on top of all the money they pay to get in the park and having to wait in stupidly long lines.
Funny that Orlando gets the most tourists of anyplace on Earth!! 55 million a year roughly! That’s just insane-seriously people, there are WAY WAY better places out there to visit!

Look, I was born and raised in Miami and now live in Orlando. I love this state, we have the best weather, most beautiful beaches, the sexiest people, and world class entertainment. There is crime and road rage in ALL major cities. You think Orlando is dangerous, go to Philly, the murder capital of the US. There is NO PLACE like FLORIDA!!!! PS It’s Jan. 11 and I am wearing shorts and sandals, only in FLA!

Johnica-I’ll give you this. I would much much rather live in Florida than Philly!!
It’s nice that your sticking up for Florida but saying that we have the BEST beaches, sexiest people and world class entertainment is a bit exaggetared. Do you work in Florida tourism?
But yeah winter’s here are good. That’s for sure.

I can’t believe Phoenix or Vegas didn’t make the list. Seems like the western part of our country was not considered for the “List”.

Shelly-Yeah I would think Vegas would make the list. Especially given that so many people lose their shirts there!

Alex- Yeah, pretty much everyone loses their shirt in Vegas. I used to live there. They have slot machines in WalMart, for crying out loud. Plus, it was like living in an oven in the summer. My daughter lives in Orlando, and she prefers Orlando over Vegas.

Shelly-Slot machines in Wal-Mart…WOW!! If I’d known that I would have tried to hit up a Wal-Mart when I was out there, hehe. Gotten cheap socks and hit the slots all in one go!
My Dad and sister live in Orlando and I grew up there. I don’t mind the burbs out there, it’s not bad and Orlando is pretty clean because it’s so new. I lived in Tampa for a couple years and definitely prefered Orlando (aside from the food because Tampa is way better for that). My wife and I just moved from Tampa to Amsterdam 3 weeks ago so its been a big change!! hehe
