As many remember, the media’s coverage was basically a flag waving parade as they helped enable the Bush administration to spew their propaganda without serious question.

From a business perspective, it made total sense for the media to do what they did. After President Bush put weapons of mass destruction and Saddam Hussein in the same sentence, some 80% of Americans supported a toppling of the regime. So the media was simply reporting on what the general public wanted to hear, not doing so could have resulted in a serious drop in ratings and loss of revenue.

In recent days, CNN’s Jessica Yellin has said that former executives helped frame her reports on Iraq to depict the president in a more positive light. Also, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews discussed the way the media was manipulated by the administration to misconstrue information pertaining to Iraq.

It’s high time the media started investigating and reporting on themselves and their accountability for the War in Iraq. Being in the vast minority of those who opposed the Iraq War from the beginning, I was appalled by the main stream media’s horrendous coverage leading up to the invasion.

Post from: Sirened

Around the Internets: Tuesday May 13th

2008 Elections

Criminals

Hillary Clinton

Iraq

John McCain

Politics

The US gov’t has cremated American troops at a facility that also cremates pets. Then he met Laura Bush and Elmo’s world turned upside down.

Not really, but Wal-Mart decided to sponsor this episode of Sesame Street where Elmo’s dad goes off to war. This of course makes Elmo sad and since Elmo is so egocentric as to refer to himself in the third person constantly, everything is immediately focused on Elmo and not Elmo’s daddy who could get blown to smithereens in the coming 15 months.

Of course, daddy getting blown up would make Elmo sad too, but this wasn’t discussed. Instead the focus shifts to how Elmo kills the time while his daddy is away-mostly the same stuff Elmo was doing when his southern drawled daddy was around; except Elmo gets a trumpet and learns to use web cam. Also, many real kids who are not pretend conceded monsters are shown facing the real issues of their daddy’s being away at war.

Being that I don’t have kids, I hadn’t seen any of Sesame Street in well, a very long time. Among other things I did find this episode to be somewhat amusing (as well as disturbing). To watch it, go to Sesame Street’s website. On a side note, if your child has difficulty remembering Elmo’s name, please get them on Ritalin immediately. And speaking of drugs, if Elmo stopped thinking about himself for a moment, Elmo might realize that daddy needs anti-depressants for post traumatic stress disorder.

Post from: Sirened

4,000 US Deaths in Iraq

Iraq

War on Terror

Yesterday President Bush spoke about an unfortunate milestone for the United States-4,000 troop deaths in Iraq. It destroys it ok!

And you call this a fruit cup? My Uncle Sami’s smoothie shop in Kirkuk pisses on this.

Oh, that’s the only Starbucks in the green zone is it? Then go outside the green zone! I don’t know how you people expect me to get anything done with such lackluster service.

Photo from Wikimedia Commons

Post from: Sirened

Jon Stewart-2008 Oscars

Iraq

John Stewart

We have to stay the course with Iraq war films by keeping them in theaters; otherwise the audience will become emboldened… Post from: Sirened
Post from: Sirened

We have to stay the course with Iraq war films by keeping them in theaters; otherwise the audience will become emboldened…

Post from: Sirened

What is Water Boarding and How is it Done?

George Bush

Iraq

Politics

Terrorism

War on Terror

YouTube

There has been a lot of talk about water boarding and whether or not it is torture as defined by the Geneva Convention and United States law. The president has said point blank, “we do not torture.” Really, water boarding sounds pretty innocent and maybe even fun. If I didn’t know it was used on terrorist suspects I would envision something along the lines of knee boarding in a lake, which actually can be torture depending on your skill and how fast the driver of the boat is going.

Anyways, here is a demonstration of water boarding just in case you’re curious. You may want to show this to your kids, their friends and some of the neighborhood children too. There’s a good chance that one day a baseball is going to come flying through your window and the culprits will most likely flee the scene of the crime. Thankfully water boarding is not torture and it is said to be a successful way to obtain information. So with that in mind, you can round up some suspects, and use the wonderful water boarding techniques that are displayed in this instructional video. You will most definitely obtain some kind of information by using this!

Post from: Sirened

For Veterans Day…

Celebrities

Iraq

Terrorism

War on Terror

Thanks for serving our country and putting your life on the line so we can enjoy quality programming such as American Idol and Dancing With the Stars.
