How far Does US Money go in Europe Right Now?

by Alex on March 11th, 2008

Dam SquareSeeing as how I’m living in Amsterdam now and my wife and I came over with US money, I figured I would share the latest US/Euro conversion rate. Right now, 1 US dollar only gets you 65 Euro cents. And if you’re a Euro, you’re now worth $1.53 US! Ouch, I wish I didn’t just look at that! It got worse…

To give you an idea of how expensive things are right now, just imagine the cost of most things in the US and multipy it by 1.5. It’s both easy and it sucks!

I was in Burger King earlier today and the Whopper Value meal was 5 Euros, so that means $7.65 US! Triple Whopper value meal you ask? Try 7 Euros or $10.71 US! Are you kidding?!? Almost 11 bucks! And they don’t have big 1 Euro menus here if you’re wondering (probably not a bad thing though).
I did however walk by KFC and noticed they have a 1 Euro chicken sandwich. Thanks guys! That means it only costs $1.53 US! What a bargain…for crap. So much for supporting Wal-Mart and subsequently Big China.

If you’re wondering why I’m just discussing fast food, well, it’s easy this way. Want to know about most other things? Just multiply by 1.5…Their beer is still cheaper though and amen to that!

Yeah even with the crummy exchange rate that’s one good thing, and that’s a really good thing!
