Low Profile Bonus In Cigarettes

by Alex on September 22nd, 2006

For all you smokers out there, you are probably getting a bonus that the cigarette companies are not telling you about. According to the Massachusetts Department of Health, nicotine levels in cigarettes have risen an average of 10%. It’s like getting a bonus amount of juice or cereal for free, except it’s an addictive chemical that makes it harder to quit smoking.

The studies findings were recently released and found that nicotine levels in the 3 most popular cigarette brands: Marlboro, Newport and Camel, increased significantly between 1998 and 2004. The cigarette brand Kool’s nicotine levels were found to have increased 20%.

The study also showed no significant difference in nicotine levels in full flavored, mild or light cigarettes. The study was done based on the way people actually smoke cigarettes, partially covering ventilation holes in the filter. The traditional method of testing with machines, that does not take into account real smoking habits, actually shows lower nicotine levels. So if you are a machine you are getting less nicotine, if you are a person you are getting more.

The increase may mean that companies who offer products for people to quit smoking may have to adjuct the levels of nicotine in patches and gums. The tobacco companies are making it harder for everyone to quit but it is important they stay on the ball with their most important market segment: young people. This has always been their primary target and they have constantly adapted to government regulations to continue to do so. After all, you have to try and get those life long customers!

this commercial was re-released in 2000 with the release of “Viva Rock Vegas” starring Steven Baldwin. Too bad the rest of the brothers protested.
