Brewery in Copenhagen:..Best beer in town?!? Seems like they’re totally fucking with the Swedes, who for the most part don’t have good beer, and which may be retribution for IKEA naming door mats after Danish towns.

]]> img_2576.jpgI’m back after a week’s vacation in Sweden and Denmark. It was a fabulous time and we really lucked out with the weather. You never know what you’re going to get with a Scandinavian summer but we couldn’t have asked for better; in Stockholm the high’s were in the mid 70’s and sunny. And incredibly, I even got a little sun burnt!

The only downside to the trip was how expensive Scandinavia is. While Sweden and Denmark are part of the European Union, they do not use the euro as their currency. Instead they use kroners, same name for both countries except the Danish kroner is a little stronger than the Swedish kroner.

This is partly why Copenhagen is currently ranked as the 3rd most expensive city in the world. And it’s damn pricey! It’s pretty standard that enjoying a beer out in Copenhagen will run you around $10 (pretty common in Stockholm too). My wife and I sat down for coffee in a cafe in Copenhagen and paid the equivalent of over $6 each for the coffees. And I’m not talking about Starbucks equivalent venti latte’s here, just a small coffee. Ouch!

Luckily we were traveling mostly on euros so this eased the cost of these very expensive countries. It’s summer, so why not talk a little less politics and a little more travel!

]]> Tivoli GardensToday my wife and I are off on a week’s vacation to Sweden and Denmark! This won’t be my first time to Sweden as I previously visited the country back in 2001 and truly enjoyed it.

Stockholm is one of the cleanest and prettiest cities in Europe and they have some of the fanciest 7-11’s you’ll ever see in your life! Not the insides but the outsides, in that some of them are in beautiful old buildings. Sure it’s a bastardization of their culture but ah, what can you do?

My wife and I will be staying in a boat hotel in Stockholm, then with some family of mine in southeast Sweden and then we’re planning to couch surf it in Copenhagen. It’ll be a little rushed but the days are long and we don’t plan to run around too much.

Anyways, even though I will be gone this site will not, look forward to posts all week including a post tomorrow about the advantages of staying on a boat in Stockholm!
