Thank goodness we visited Birka Island’s Viking Museum or we never would have learned that there were dragons back in those days.

Ah, Sweden’s glorious past.

24 Hours of Light in Stockholm

24 Hours of Light in Stockholm

One of the things that I’ve always wanted to see in life is a day with no real night. And if you’re in Stockholm close to the summer solstice like I was, you’ll see just that. Stockholm is in the eastern part of the Central European Time zone so it’s official sunset isn’t insanely late (around 10:20pm at summer solstice), but if you’re looking to the north this is the light you’ll see from around 11:30pm-2:30am. At around 2:30am it starts getting lighter because sunrise was around 3:30am when we were there (July 2nd-4th).
Stockholm is around the same latitude as …read more

Denver to Put Homeless in Zoo During DNC

Denver to Put Homeless in Zoo During DNC

Woohoo! The Democratic National Convention is just over a month away and homeless people can barely contain their excitement. Why? Because they’re going to the zoo!
Not only that, but the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless is also planning on scoring them 500 movie tickets as well as tickets for the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. That’s fantastic because if there’s one thing that homeless people are deprived of, it’s being in touch with nature.
Now the naysayers out there are suggesting that this is just a cheap ploy to get rid of the homeless who would otherwise be in close …read more

Where to Eat Swedish Meatballs in Stockholm…

Where to Eat Swedish Meatballs in Stockholm…

Pretty much everything in Stockholm is pricey and eating Swedish meatballs out is no exception. If you’re hanging out in the Gamla Stan (old quarter), expect to pay about 148 Swedish kroners for traditional Swedish meatballs served with boiled potatoes. And if you’re counting in US dollars or euros, which most of you are, that’s about 16 euros or $25 US dollars. This is an outrageous amount of money for mystery meat served with starch and that price is pretty stock standard in Gamla Stan, with a great exception that we stumbled upon.
We decided to give a cute place called …read more

John McCain Must Pick Up “Master of the Internet”

John McCain Must Pick Up “Master of the Internet”

Holy crap, I had to watch about two minutes of this clip before I realized this was real and not a joke. Here’s a terribly wonderful infomercial from 1994 about “mastering the internet”, featuring Napoleon Dynamites brother’s doppelganger and filmed in Florida, of course.
Did you know that in 1994 there were 10,000 people using Al Gore’s internets?-”And in the next decade that number is expected to go up by 50%.” Wow, he really goes out on a limb with that projection. I mean seriously, he really thought that 15,000 people would be on the internet by 2004? Yeah sure, and …read more

Red Bull Illegal in Some Countries

Red Bull Illegal in Some Countries

It wasn’t until my recent trip to Scandinavia that I learned that Red Bull has actually been banned in some countries. First I learned that it’s illegal in Denmark, then upon further reading I found out that it’s also banned in France and Norway.
So why is this magical drink that “gives you wings” banned in several countries? Apparently it’s all because a few people have died from it and these governments are concerned with the high levels of taurine and caffeine in the beverages. In fact, a new Danish friend that initially brought this to my attention said “it’s dangerous …read more

Carlsberg Beer-Make Up Your Mind!

Carlsberg Beer-Make Up Your Mind!

Truck in Stockholm…Best beer in the world?!?

Brewery in Copenhagen:..Best beer in town?!? Seems like they’re totally fucking with the Swedes, who for the most part don’t have good beer, and which may be retribution for IKEA naming door mats after Danish towns.

7-Eleven in Sweden Advertises Fruit!

7-Eleven in Sweden Advertises Fruit!

This is something you probably won’t see at your local 7-Eleven in say, Valdosta, Georgia. But have no fear, if you’re in Sweden and you’re craving a Big Bite, you can still get one! Despite all this fruit crap posted on the front window, they still have big bites rolling around all day, just like in the US and A.
Another thing you can nab at Swedish 7-Eleven’s is stale loose candy. Swedes love candy and their 7-Eleven’s have many germ filled bins with candy that was delicious days ago.
In Denmark, you can actually buy liquor at 7-Eleven, which is extremely …read more

South Park: Jesse Jackson-Apologize!

South Park: Jesse Jackson-Apologize!

For South Park fans out there, many might remember the episode where Stan’s Dad, Randy Marsh screws up the final puzzle on Wheel of Fortune and comes under heavy ridicule.
The puzzle: “people who annoy you- n_ggers.” The answer of course is…naggers. That however was not the response that Randy Marsh gave and so he had to apologize to Jesse Jackson in a special way.
Anyways, seeing as how Jesse Jackson wants to cut Barack Obama’s nuts off, I thought this clip was good viewing. Kiss it!
