Tim Russert: Great Journalist, Great Representative of Buffalo
The word of Tim Russert’s surprising death on Friday was very sad news. Many news anchors who worked with Tim fought back tears as they reported his sudden death.
Tim Russert was not only great at his job, but he absolutely loved it and it was clearly evident. When something was interesting to Tim-and in his business it was frequent, his eyes would widen and his face would light up. This is certainly part of the reason Tim worked so hard and was so good at what he did.
Tim Russert was born and raised in Buffalo, NY and he never kept it a secret. On Meet the Press, he would often end the show with “Go Bills!” This of course has not gone unrecognized by the Buffalo Bills as their home page has a video about Russert’s life and passing. In the team’s official statement they called Russert “a Bills fan forever.”
When talking about Russert’s death, even John McCain said “he was a Bills fan.” The kind of pride Russert had for his city and roots are part of the classy nature of the man. As a kid I grew up in Niagara Falls, NY before moving to Florida at the age of 9. That was around the time I started getting into football so naturally I became a Bills fan and have been a loyal fan ever since. While this has not been a good decade for the Bills, I still love the team and respect Tim for supporting them as much as he did.
I still have a lot of family in Buffalo and visited the city as recently as last August. Despite the city’s bad reputation for being dirty and run down, the people are generally friendly and there are beautiful places in the area-Niagara Falls being the most obvious. So as someone who’s proud of my Buffalo roots as well, thanks Tim and GO BILLS!

Such a shame. He was one of the few political TV personalities that I actually respected. He didn’t need to raise his voice to get his point across, and he had a charm that was obvious even through the camera.

Yes, too true. I wonder how people would react if Bill O’Reilly died suddenly? I wonder if Geraldo Rivera would be able to keep back the tears…
