Wouldn’t A Pre-Election Saddam Hanging Be More Poignant?

by Alex on November 6th, 2006

Yesterday, an Iraqi court found Saddam Hussein guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced him to death by hanging. Here we see a defiant Saddam holding his finger up to show that he’s still #1 according to the Associated Sunni Press.

Some critics have accused the Iraqi court of being biased in favor of US policies. The first judge resigned in protest over government interference and there were claims that the defense team did not have adequate time to review documents brought forth by the prosecution.

Regardless, our Commander in Charge, George Bush has been all over this like Lindsey Lohan on a snow pea. Once again, Bush tried to declare mission accomplished after Saddam’s death sentence.

Some are arguing that the ruling has been fixed to come right before our elections to favor Republicans. Come on, if they really wanted that Republican boost, Saddam would have actually been hung yesterday, not just sentenced to hang. Or at least a public water boarding exhibition might have sufficed, something a little more dramatic than Court TV.
